OFFICIAL DATA · THROUGH MARCH 2026
Recorded domestic retrofit installations. Each plotted month is complete.
MCS data represents battery installations recorded through the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. It should not be interpreted as the complete UK installed battery population. Mean capacity is calculated from rounded sample totals and matching sample counts.

OFFICIAL DATA · INSTALLED COST
Mean installed cost · 2025-26

DESNZ / MCS ↗Updated 28 May 2026
Capacity and cost use a cleaned sample, not every recorded installation. Published capacity and cost figures are rounded to the nearest 10.
Costs include equipment, installation, grid connection and VAT where applicable. Excludes solar panels, other additional devices and extended warranties. Figures are not inflation-adjusted.
Official statistics in development. Figures can be revised. Rising registrations can reflect increased certification, increased installations, or both.
Mean cost observations: 2024-25: £890/kWh; 2025-26: £870/kWh.
The mean and median are different measures. No all-system average invoice is published here, and multiplying average capacity by average £/kWh would not produce a reliable average invoice. The chart connects two financial-year observations, not monthly estimates.
BATTERY BOOST MARKET DATA
Indicators calculated from Battery Boost’s battery and solar tariff listings. Supplier eligibility and regional rates apply.
Cheapest qualifying off-peak rate
Highest advertised export tier
12p variable requires Good Energy import supply and half-hourly smart-meter readings. 25p is a fixed 12-month offer for a qualifying Good Energy solar-and-battery installation, reverting to the standard tariff afterwards.
Good Energy ↗Updated 19 Sept 2026
Compare export terms →Battery & solar products tracked
Largest qualifying import/export spread: not published. The current records do not verify a compatible pair and permission to export grid-charged energy. The highest advertised solar export tier is not automatically a battery arbitrage rate.
Battery Boost tariff database ↗Updated 24 Sept 2026
Latest individual tariff review: 24 Sept 2026. Listings reviewed between 19 Sept 2026 and 24 Sept 2026. A single complete-scan timestamp is not recorded.
A per-cycle value will appear only when compatible qualifying import and export rates are verified. For 10 kWh delivered, gross value = (10 × export p/kWh − 10 ÷ 0.9 × import p/kWh) ÷ 100.
Illustrative only, not guaranteed earnings. Excludes standing charges and degradation. Tariff eligibility, battery power and capacity limits, export restrictions and actual household use affect the result.

Electricity VAT 0% during this periodThe price cap is a benchmark for standard variable electricity pricing. Battery-specific and dynamic tariffs can differ significantly. Regional rates vary. The VAT basis changes between these periods, so they are not directly comparable.

National and regional carbon intensity and generation mix come from the NESO Carbon Intensity API. National values use actual intensity when available, otherwise forecast. Regional values are forecasts. Biomass is included in the renewables total; nuclear is shown separately.
Refreshes at most every 15 minutes per region. Each reading shows its source period and retrieval time above. A refresh failure retains the last successful snapshot and labels it delayed. Charging windows require a forecast at least 20% below current carbon intensity.
NESO source and methodology ↗GB average single-rate Direct Debit electricity prices. Current and next periods switch on their effective dates. A benchmark is never labelled current after its stated end date. Source checked 25 Sept 2026; publication timestamp not supplied on the source page.
Ofgem rates and regional tables ↗Uses the same published product records as our Battery Tariff Tracker. Paused and beta products do not enter rate rankings. Ambiguous discounts, credits, variable prices and regional quote-only values are excluded from the charging-rate ranking. Export ceilings retain supplier conditions and are not assumed to be available for grid-charged battery exports.
Latest individual record review 24 Sept 2026. No qualifying import/export pairing has been verified, so no arbitrage figure is published.
